Frequently Asked Questions

How will MESA teams get from the airport to the competition?:
It is highly recommended that teams arrive in Philadelphia no later than 7:30PM on Tuesday, June 20th. Temple University shuttles will be available to pick up teams from Philadelphia International Airport between 3:00pm-8:00pm. Teams arriving after 8:00pm will need to take SEPTA Airport Line from the airport to the Temple University stop, and walk four blocks to the 1940 Dorm. The Airport Line fare is $6.50 per person at a booth and $8.00 per person on the train. We will arrange to have a walking escort for those teams that arrive at the rail stop on campus.

What is the airport shuttle schedule at the end of competition?:
For teams departing Friday, June 23rd, Temple shuttles will depart Temple Engineering between 12:30-3:00pm to arrive at the airport for departures between 2:30pm-6:00pm.

For teams departing Saturday, June 24th, Temple shuttles will depart Temple Engineering between 11:00am-1:00pm for departures after 1pm.

Where are the MESA teams and coaches staying?:
Teams and coaches will reside at the 1940 Residence Hall, one block from the College of Engineering and the two blocks from the competition site. "1940" has two-person and four-person suites with private baths. A set of bed linens will be provided to each delegate. All adults staying in the dorm are required to have current background clearances at the time of the event.

Are guests allowed to attend the events?:
The NEDC is a public event and we welcome guests from our local, regional and national partners. There is no charge to attend the actual competition. However Temple University will charge an onsite daily food and activity fee (payable via cash or credit card) for team guests who choose to eat at the buffet or participate in extracurricular activities.

Are guests allowed to stay in dorms?:
We regret many of Temple's dorms are under construction this summer, so space is severely limited. At this time, only MESA delegations are allowed in dorms. If there is an additional critical delegation member/volunteer/student, we will make every effort to add that person to the MESA USA dorm roster. The total registration cost for each additional delegation member will be $610 to cover food, dorm, ground transportation and activities.

Additional guests, friends and families are invited to stay in any one of our nearby hotels, including Double Tree and Embassy Suites listed below.

How do we get around to see Philadelphia's historic sites?:
Temple University is a large urban research university 10 minutes from downtown Philadelphia on the "Broad Street Line", which is easily accessible by SEPTA public transportation, taxi, Uber, and Lyft. We have a downtown site seeing excursion planned for Wednesday, June 21st with transportation provided by Temple shuttles.

If you do prefer to rent a car, we normally have plenty of street parking near the college, and two parking garages within four blocks of the college.
